“August 8th is Global Sleep Under the Stars Night. Whether it’s in the backcountry or your own backyard, one of the best ways to experience the beauty of the outdoors is to spend a night under the stars. Gazing up at the night sky gives us a sense of peace and, at the same time, an overwhelming sense of awe.”
My notes: Even if you don’t want to sleep, take the time to go outside & view the stars. Try to identify some constellations, asterisms, stars. I have a telescope with a Go-To & I can spend a good hour easily outside.

"Sneak Some Zucchini Into Your Neighbor’s Porch Day on August 8th offers gardeners a way to rid themselves of extra produce. For some, this day offers a way to rid their garden of an overproducing squash plant. Did you know that zucchini was a fruit? Well, if you’re a gardener, you know this fact already. You also know that zucchini grows in abundance and is ready for harvest in August. Zucchini growers also know that one plant of zucchini allows you to share this wonderful treat!" My notes: While I don't grow zucchini, I know of others who do. You only need a few plants as they create an abundance of produce! lammchen

Don't care for zucchini by itself, but, put it in puddings, breads or cakes and it's yummy

Aw, my plants died. Now I know for next year that if I do container planting to just do it out in the garden so that when their root system grows out of the bottom of the container that they won't need to be moved. I had to move my plants because I needed to spray for bugs that were affecting the other plants around them. It's possible the other bugs got to them as well and I just didn't notice.

spice, lainee, I don't know of many people who like zucchini plain, without using it as an ingredient in baked goods. lammchen, Oh, that's too bad! Did you try containers before? Sometimes we can get bad plants as well that start out unhealthy & nothing we could do would save them. That's happened to me before.

spice , lainee , I don't know of many people who like zucchini plain, without using it as an ingredient in baked goods. lammchen , Oh, that's too bad! Did you try containers before? Sometimes we can get bad plants as well that start out unhealthy & nothing we could do would save them. That's happened to me before. I've had tomato plants and herbs growing in containers and the Basil was the only thing that really thrived until this one zucchini plant went crazy giving me veggies. Too bad I had to pull up the roots to move the container. I would have loved to have zucchini still, but fortunately my church's community garden has so many veggies they're giving a lot to members too and I got some yellow squash.

"National Dollar Day on August 8th commemorates the day Congress established the U.S. monetary system in 1786. In 1862, the United States printed its first dollar bill. Do you know whose face was printed there? It wasn’t George Washington. The first dollar bill featured Salmon P. Chase, President Lincoln’s Secretary of Treasury."
My notes: Did you know this bit of trivia? That it was NOT George Washington at first? I didn't!

Chase was also on the face of the now unused $10k,000 bill. More on him: Salmon P. ChaseProbably unused because not many people could afford to have one lol
I wonder if he has any relation with Chase banks out there. It didn't say that on the site.
